My CSV export is empty

Updated 2026-06-22

If your exported CSV comes out empty or missing columns you expected, it's almost always because the filters you set excluded every response, or there were no responses to export in the first place. This article covers each cause and how to fix it.

Where export lives

Open your project's Analytics, go to the Responses tab, and click Export in the top-right corner. The Export Responses dialog lets you filter the rows, choose which extra columns to include, and download as CSV or Excel.

You have no responses yet

Export only includes responses people have actually submitted. A brand-new calculator, or one that's published but hasn't been used, has nothing to export.

  • Check the Responses table behind the export dialog. If it's empty, there's nothing to download yet.
  • Confirm your calculator is published and shared. See Publishing and Share links.

Your filters are too narrow

The export uses the filters set in the dialog. If you've combined a tight date range with a specific link or respondent, the filters can exclude every response and produce an empty file.

  1. In the Export Responses dialog, click Clear to drop all filters.
  2. Export again with no filters to confirm responses come through.
  3. Re-apply filters one at a time so you can see which one was hiding your rows.

Common culprits are a date range that doesn't cover when responses came in, or filtering to a single share link or respondent that has no submissions.

Expected columns are missing

The file always includes the system columns — ID, Response Date, Link Name, Link Type, and Version — plus a column for each of your blocks and results. Some columns are off by default and must be switched on:

  • Include Lead Form — adds a column with lead form data, if your calculator collects it. Off by default.
  • Include Metadata — adds Location and Device columns. Off by default.

If lead or location data is missing from your file, turn on the matching toggle before exporting.

You can also choose how result values appear under Result Values: Formatted, Raw, or Raw + Formatted. If a result column looks blank, switching to Raw + Formatted can reveal whether the underlying value exists but isn't formatting.

Still empty?

If responses show in the table but the download is empty, try the Excel button instead of CSV to rule out a spreadsheet-app import setting on your end. For more on the analytics tools, see Exporting data and the Responses table.
